…is a freelance filmmaker using anthropological knowledge and research methods to explore issues in film and video. His main interest is in the human life course, particularly birth and death, with regional specialisation in India. Andy is film-maker in residence at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, at the University of Manchester, where he teaches on the MA in Visual Anthropology. Andy has made films for broadcast as well as producing award winning films for festival release.

Recent directing credits include the documentary feature, Born a meditation on birth made in collaboration with the radical midwife Judith Kurutac. Born was made for the International touring exhibition of art about the politics and practice of childbirth, Birth Rites.  His latest documentary feature, in collaboration with Rajive McMullen and other members of Asta films, is a journey across Northern India in search of Tantric ideas about birth, death and well-being.  The Lover and the Beloved: A Journey Into Tantra will be released later in 2010.   Andy has also worked in drama, collaborating with acclaimed poet Mark Gwynne-Jones to produce the short film, The Message, and was a founding member of the artists collective, Psychicbread.
